Portofino Italy Holiday Hotel?

Portofino was founded by the Romans and was named Portus Delphini, better known as Port of the Dolphin, thanks to the large communities of dolphins that inhabit the nearyby Tigullian Gulf. At least that’s what Pliny the Elder claims. This is about all that’s known about this ancient settlement.

What’s odd about Portofino is that this little town only has about 500 full time residents, yet that all changes in the summer when the sun shines bright and the yachts arrive to explore and have fun. Portofino has been to known to be frequented by many high flying people.

Portofino is a very fashionable resort town known to be crawling with celebrities during the summer. The town features great seafood, very relaxing ambience, and picturesque harbors.

Portofino cannot be arrived at by train, so train travellers get off at Santa Margherita Ligure. It is then a brief wander to the harbor with great pubs and beautiful yachts. Through the harbour in Santa Margherita Ligure, merely pursue the harbor and sea coast and shortly you are strolling alongside the sea, past beaches laden with the sun worshippers and secret pirate coves.

At the tiny town of Paraggi, the trail takes up the right part of the route on a good paved/gravel path through the trees and shrubs. Reaching Portofino, you will wander between rock walls and finally plunge down to the tiny harbour stacked with million-dollar luxury yachts and colorful angling boats. The walker can select to take the low-cost ferry back to Santa Margherita Ligure or could possibly wander back or take the shuttle bus. However first have a wonderful supper and wine overlooking the people enjoying Portofino.

The town square, is the token for Portofino, with its coloured builings and the harbour with its fairy tale luxury yachts. The church of Saint Martin in the village centre is also really worth a visit. Heading up towards the promontory you come to the church and castle of Saint George, and also further along the way you can see Brown Castle, immersed in breathtaking landscapes.

For nature enthusiasts, the ideal excursion is through the Portofino Natural Park, which provides a system of routes going towards the mountain peak or halfway down the coastline, with breathtaking sights from the promontory.

For scuba divers, the reef is an organic paradise. This is the heart of the Protected Underwater Area of Portofino, with its underwater cliffs and Posidonia beds. The park is the territory of red coral, which has discovered ideal conditions to develop. Scuba divers can also visit the wreckage of the Mohawk Deer and the Genova.

Regardless of the reason for your holiday or visit, when you’re in Portofino, you will feel like royalty.
